Internships at JaanCar · Bangalore · 3 tracks open

Apply by finding something we got wrong.

JaanCar is a small team building machine verified truth for India's used car market. A buyer should be able to see what a car actually is before they pay for it. That is the whole company.

This is an internship, not a shadowing programme. You get one live problem in your first week and your name on what ships. We read every application and we read the task first.

Build the thing that tells the truth.

You push to the live site in your first fortnight. The work runs from the interface a buyer touches down to the models that grade a car, and a fair share of it is finding the places where the product quietly lies to a user.

01The basics
Who you are, what you have built and when you could start. Resume attached, five minutes at most.
02The real task
Use jaancar.com like a buyer would, then bring us one concrete bug or optimization and the method that got you there.
03The open question
What technology we hold over competitors, and what you would add to widen the gap. Not scored, genuinely.
What you will actually doGears 1–5
Design and ship a surfaceBooking flow, report section, dealer screen. Brief to live.
Tune the modelsDyno, NVH and OBD signal in, a defensible score out.
Build the proprietary datasetEvery assessment is labelled ground truth nobody else holds.
Hunt edge casesSlow 3G, failed uploads, a car with no service history.
Own the release test passThe assessment flow, before anything goes out.
What we look for
Reads before askingOpens the network tab and the console first.
Distrusts a clean numberChecks whether the model output survives a real car.
Ships to real usersComfortable with your name on the deploy.
Explains the methodCan walk someone else through how you got there.
Not required
A CS degreeA big-name internshipAutomotive experienceA perfect CGPAWe look at what you built and how you explain it.
How pay worksJaanCar is bootstrapped, so a stipend starts from month three. Interns who convert move to a full time role on a proper salary once we close our first funding round. We would rather say that plainly than surprise you in week one.
JCPART 1

The basics

The short version of you. Only the starred fields are required, the rest just help us place you properly.

Resume
PDF or Word document (.pdf, .doc, .docx), up to 4 MB.
JCPART 2 · THE REAL TASK

Go and break our site.

Go and use jaancar.com. Find one real bug or one real optimization we have missed. Not a hypothetical. Something you can point at.

What we are judging
01Specific enough that we can see the same thing you saw, on the same page, in the same order.
02The method: what tipped you off, what you opened, what you measured, what you ruled out.
03A real consequence for a real person. One finding carried all the way through beats a list of ten.

Partial credit is real. A clearly reasoned near miss beats a lucky guess, so show your working even when you are not certain you are right.

Your submission
Is it a bug or an optimization?
Where to start looking
01The assessment booking flow, on a real phone on mobile data.
02The sample report: does every number agree with every other number?
03What happens on a slow connection, or when a request fails.
04The price-to-market comparison against a listing you can find yourself.

These are starting points, not a checklist. Deciding what is worth looking at is most of the skill.

A strong answer looks like

One page, one finding, four paragraphs. What you expected, what happened, the step-by-step to reproduce it, and who pays for it. A screenshot or a HAR file if you have one.

How long this takes
30 minsof writing. Think longer, write short.

We reply to every submission within a week, whichever way it goes.

JCPART 3

What technology do we have that competitors do not?

JaanCar measures six systems on a car and produces a graded report. Tell us which part of that is genuinely hard to copy, and what you would add to widen the gap.

There is no right answer here and nothing in this box is scored against a rubric. We ask because these answers have changed our minds before.
